Prescription Loupes Guide

If you wear glasses for close or intermediate work, your loupes may need prescription lenses so the magnified view is sharp without wearing glasses underneath. This guide covers who usually needs them, what information to have ready, and how the HeliosX process works after checkout.

Do you need prescription loupes?

Loupes magnify the image, but they do not correct your vision. If you normally need glasses to see clearly at arm’s length or closer, you will usually want that correction built into the loupe frame. If you only wear glasses for distance, or you wear contact lenses at work, you may not need prescription carriers at all.

  • Wear glasses for reading or computer work: prescription carriers are worth discussing.
  • Wear contact lenses in clinic or the OR: standard carriers often work.
  • Unsure: bring the question to your eye-care professional and tell us your working distance.

What to have ready

A current prescription from a recent eye examination is the starting point. Your working distance and pupillary distance matter as well, because the loupes are aligned for the distance at which you work, not for driving or reading a book.

How prescription lenses fit into the loupes

Most loupes mount the optics on or through a carrier lens in the frame. With a prescription, that carrier lens includes your correction, so you look through your prescription and the loupe optics together. That is why the prescription, PD, and working distance need to be reviewed together before production.

  • Your everyday glasses prescription may be written for a different distance than your working distance.
  • Progressive or multifocal prescriptions need extra care; ask before ordering.
  • Tell us if you have a strong correction so we can review it before you commit.

How HeliosX handles your prescription

Prescription lenses add $200 per pair. Choose the option at checkout, then submit your prescription with your measurements after ordering. We review the details before custom production and contact you if anything needs clarification.

  • 30-day returns on non-prescription pairs; prescription pairs are refundable until production begins.
  • Production usually takes 1–2 weeks after your measurements are approved.
  • Standard worldwide shipping is included in the listed price.

When your prescription changes

Prescriptions change over time. If your correction changes after you receive your loupes, contact us with the new prescription and your order details so we can discuss the options before you order a replacement pair.

Common questions

Can I wear my glasses under loupes instead?

Some people do, but it usually moves the loupes further from your eyes, which can narrow the view and make fit less comfortable. Prescription carriers or contact lenses are usually better options.

Do I need an eye exam before ordering?

You need a current prescription. If yours is old, or your near vision has changed, an up-to-date exam is the safest starting point.

How much do prescription lenses cost at HeliosX?

$200 per pair, added at checkout.

When do I send my prescription?

After checkout, together with your measurements. We review everything before production begins.

Can I get help before placing an order?

Yes. Email heliosxloupes@gmail.com with your specialty, current magnification, typical procedures, and budget. Ask us to help narrow the configuration before you pay.

Can I return loupes if I change my mind?

Yes. Non-prescription pairs can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Prescription pairs can be cancelled for a full refund until production begins; after that, we cover defects and fit corrections. Read Returns for the details.

Need help applying this to your setup?
